Overview
Beginning March 11, 2007, Daylight Saving Time (DST) start and end dates for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  Under the new law, Daylight Saving Time will begin the second Sunday of March and end the first Sunday of November, extending the timeframe by four weeks.  Due to this DST change, operating system and application software updates may be required to ensure that the system clock on HP products is accurate.

This is not unique to HP products.  All devices that automatically adjust Daylight Saving Time and that support operating systems or rely on a local time zone that observes DST will be affected by the 2007 DST change.

Other Countries Affected by the Change
Several countries other than United States of America are also implementing the same DST change (Canada, Bermuda), and other countries are expected to make similar changes.  For a complete listing of Worldwide Daylight Saving Time schedules, including countries that are changing along with the United States, refer to the Worldwide Daylight Saving Reference Page.

Why care about DST?

You are affected by the new DST change if:

  • You are running a computer system in the USA, Canada, or Bermuda, particularly if the system is running an application that performs time-sensitive functions, such as scheduling or creation/validation of time or date stamps.

  • You are outside of the USA, Canada or Bermuda but are running a computer system that interacts with or is integrated with systems in the USA, Canada or Bermuda that have transitioned to the new DST rules.

HP is providing patches or updates that will address the changes for your products as the result of the U.S. 2007 DST law.  Utilize this information to perform assessment of your HP products.  In some rare circumstances, based on your particular configuration and applications, you may encounter a DST issue that HP or your third party software vendor has not addressed, if so please contact HP Support.  This site is subject to change.  Please check back for updates.

Most Imaging and Printing products do not have internal clocks. Products that do have internal clocks generally do not automatically adjust for DST, therefore changes in U.S. DST rules (time change dates) will have no direct impact. Internal clocks must be adjusted manually on the appropriate date.
FAX Products Internal clocks in HP multifunction and All-in-One products do not automatically adjust for DST, therefore the clock must be adjusted manually on the appropriate date. Some devices (fax and associated host-based software) allow the fax to use the host clock (PC, for example). If this option is available and selected, the adjustment will be managed by the host. Please insure the host operating system is updated with the latest DST rules.
Printer Software Products Software applications, such as Web Jetadmin, Output Server, Digital Sending Software, and Easy Printer Care, rely on the host OS for clock information. Please insure your host operating system is updated with the latest DST rules.
Print Server Appliance A patch will be required. Please click here for additional information.
